about

The Oikospielen Opera’s Ballet company and Ilinx Group present an all new arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s beloved holiday classic.

Message from David:

Dear listeners, I hope you are healthy. It is a horrible time, as it was for Tchaikovsky in 1892 when he was commissioned to write this legendary ballet, writing his brother “My brain is empty; I have not the least pleasure in work.” Adapted from a story by one of the original masters of uncanny horror and weird fiction, ETA Hoffman, The Nutcracker’s music interpolates kitsch waltzes with swollen emotions and the haunted glow of the Rat King’s army sneaking into our homes in the middle of a dark winter. This arrangement is mixed from the MIDI piano reduction, with only occasional new material added— most of the events are from the original. The rats were found in the fairy fountain water, hopefully it brings you some warmth. Many blessings and much love, David.
